Vaikuntha's Fall is a 3D VR scene design that immerses users in the haunting aftermath of a utopian city's destruction, blending surreal visuals with an exploration of loss and transformation. Through the character Lila, users navigate decayed landscapes, uncovering fragments of a once-perfect world now caught in cycles of ruin and rebirth.

Explored various atmospheric lighting settings, including misty environments, dramatic skies, and subtle illumination, to set the tone for the scene's mood and ambiance.

My layout exploration was inspired by the stylized suburbia found in movies like Edward Scissorhands and The Truman Show, where meticulously uniform neighborhoods create a surreal, almost controlled atmosphere. The soft color palette and lighting echo animated aesthetics seen in The Incredibles, adding an artistic, story-driven layer to the scene design.

Framing

My inspiration was drawn from scenes that use symmetry and natural framing to contrast tranquility with underlying tension. The first image, with its linear perspective and reflective water, creates a calm atmosphere that could be disrupted, while the circular framing in the second image suggests harmony—a stark contrast to the chaos of destruction I plan to depict in my scene. This balance of order and turmoil will heighten the emotional impact.

Terrain

Terrain was inspired by mossy and rugged floors which give a sense of destruction and nature prevailing.

This was created to outline the implementation of 3D assets, weather effects, fire VFX, and dynamic lighting, focusing on enhancing scene realism and conveying environmental devastation. This included defining necessary 3D objects, visual effects, materials, and textures, ensuring cohesion between all elements to create a consistent and immersive atmosphere

Introduction

Design Pod was created to provide a platform where creative minds could come together to explore, innovate, and push the boundaries of design and technology. This space is a hub of collaboration and imagination, where visionary designers, artists, and developers can bring their ideas to life. The branding assets reflect this ethos, combining elements of creativity, energy, and professionalism. The logo, color palette, typography, and visual elements are all crafted to evoke a sense of modernity and forward-thinking while remaining grounded in simplicity and clarity.

Design Pod’s core vision is to foster a community that nurtures creativity and supports innovative ideas. It was designed as a space for design enthusiasts and professionals to come together, collaborate, and create something exceptional. The branding elements—each carefully selected and crafted—help to communicate this vision both in physical spaces and online platforms. The logo itself is symbolic of the "pod," representing a small, contained environment that nurtures big ideas. The sharp, clean lines convey professionalism, while the colors and visual elements hint at energy, creativity, and innovation.

In this greybox, I have blocked out the core elements of the scene using simple shapes. The towering structures represent buildings, while the street area will be the main path of interaction. Key props, such as streetlights and fences, are represented by basic shapes to help visualize the environment's functionality and layout. The goal at this stage is to fine-tune the spatial relationships and ensure a smooth player experience.

Concept Sketch: Post-Destruction Atmosphere

This sketch illustrates how the cityscape of Vaikuntha transforms after Lila disrupts its perfect order. Buildings tilt, debris floats, and environmental elements shift from their original places, reflecting the chaos introduced into the otherwise flawless city. This concept gives a visual direction for how the greybox will evolve into a detailed and immersive 3D environment.

Building Proccess

Terrain Sculpting and Asset Population

Terrain were crafted and created with assets from Sketchfab, Quixel Bridge, and Unity Store.


Textures and Decals

Applied to add dirt, cracks, and damage for realism.


Fog and Rain Effects

Used atmospheric fog and rain (Niagara system) for a gloomy, despairing tone.


Fire and Lighting

Enhanced with dynamic lighting, fire VFX, and shadow effects.


Levitating Rocks

Introduced floating debris via Niagara to symbolize magical chaos from cosmic manipulation.
